Step-by-Step Guide to Pan and Zoom in Filmora X

The pan and zoom feature (also known as the Ken Burns effect) is a powerful tool in Filmora X for adding motion to still images and videos, making them more engaging.

Follow these steps to get started:

Step 1: Add Media to the Timeline

First, drag the image or video clips you want to edit onto your timeline.

Step 2: Access the Pan and Zoom Tool

Select the clip you want to work on and click the Crop icon. In the pop-up window, you will find the
Pan & Zoom tab.

Step 3: Understand the Start and End Boxes

In this tab, you’ll see two adjustable boxes:

  • The green “Start” box represents the initial frame of your clip.
  • The red “End” box represents the final frame after the effect is applied.

Step 4: Apply the Effects

  • Zoom-in Effect: To create a zoom-in, make the Start box larger and the End box smaller.
This gives the illusion of the camera moving closer to the subject.
  • Zoom-out Effect: To create a zoom-out, do the opposite. Make the Start box smaller and the
End box larger. This makes it look like the camera is pulling away.
  • Panning Effect: To create a panning effect, keep both boxes the same size but move them to different positions on the screen. This makes the camera appear to move horizontally or vertically across the image.

You can preview any of these effects by clicking the Playback icon.

Step 5: Finalize and Apply

Once you are happy with the effect, click OK to apply the changes to your clip. If you’re not satisfied, you can always click the Reset button to start over. You can also quickly select a camera movement using the icons provided.
